How-to restart Business Central environments

Modified on Wed, 24 Jun at 4:08 AM

From the Business Central Admin Center, administrators can view and work with production and sandbox environments, set up upgrade notifications, and view telemetry for events for their Business Central tenant.

Access to the Business Central Admin Center

To access the Business Central Admin Center, one of these Microsoft Entra (formerly Azure AD) administrative roles is required:
  • Dynamics 365 Business Central Administrator (Recommended)
  • Dynamics 365 Administrator
  • Global Administrator
  • Helpdesk Administrator (Provides limited read/update capabilities)

Your administrator can review and assign roles. Our team has limited access to support your Business Central environments and does not have access to manage users or roles for your organization.

Restarting your Business Central environement

It can happen an environment is locked or experiencing major performance issues. In those cases and after an initial review, it can be recommended to restart your Business Central environment.

Contact us at support@ruxsoftware.com for assistance in reviewing the behavior and confirming if restarting the environment is advised.

1. From Business Central, go to Settings (the gear icon) and click on Admin Center. You can also directly access the admin center by adding ‘admin’ after the tenant ID (the long string of letters and numbers in your Business Central URL: https://businesscentral.dynamics.com/[TENANT_ID]/admin

2. Click on the name of the environment you need to restart. In this example, I restart the Development sandbox.

3. Click on SessionsTip: This is where we check if users are in the environment, if they’re active and if there could be a long-running task in progress.

 4. Click on Restart EnvironmentYou will be asked to confirm as this will stop all user sessions.

5. Back on the Environments page, you’ll see the environment state change from Active to Preparing. After a couple minutes, it will be back to Active and users will be able to connect to the environment again.
